This weekend I am going through digitized 8mm videotapes while we are icebound. Found this gem of our visit to Shelby American in Las Vegas Motor Speedway in June 2000. At the time we were active in the Texas Z Car Club (Datsun/Nissan Z-Cars). We drove our 280Zs from Texas to Las Vegas for the International Z-Car Convention down old Route 66, with our three kids, age 10, 13, 16. Wife drove her '75 280-Z with our daughter, I drove my 1978 280Z with son. Our oldest son rode with a friend in his 1991 300ZX twin-turbo.
If I recall, the green 1966 GT-350 was the car driven by James Garner in the 1966 movie Grand Prix. The red 427 cobra was one of the infamous "found chassis" CSX3000 continuation cobras. Sticker price was $500,000.
This day was the catalyst to get me moving on my dream to build/own a Shelby Cobra. (Yes, that's me in the mullet, jorts, and man purse ... ughgh). After we got home I made plans to sell all the Z-cars and begin my quest. It only took me 12 more years to actually get started on the build.... "life" stuff happens.
